Frequently Asked Questions
WHERE WILL WE FLY FROM AND TO?
-We hope to fly out of Richmond, VA, but due to our group size may have to fly out of Washington D.C. We know that we’ll be flying into San Antonio, TX.
WHAT WILL OUR TRANSPORTATION BE WHILE THERE?
-CrossRoads Missions staff will pick us up at the San Antonio Airport in their 15 passenger vans. They will transport us to Piedras Negras (just across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass, TX) including the border crossing. It is about a 3 hour drive from San Antonio. Whenever we need to go to anywhere their staff will drive us in one of their vans.
WHERE WILL WE STAY?
-CrossRoads Missions owns a neighborhood on the edge of town called Piedra Angular (Cornerstone) that has homes of their staff, Christians, a church, a community center and housing for CrossRoads Missions work groups. The beds are generally bunk beds (like at a camp). There is also a shower trailer.
WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE?
-Generally hot and dry. Temperatures in June can range from 75-100 degrees.
WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE?
-Most days breakfast is continental style. Lunch is typically sandwiches and chips. Dinner is various DELICIOUS homemade Mexican dinners.
WILL THERE BY ANY SPECIAL TREATS FOR OUR GROUP?
-Each week on Wednesday, CrossRoads Missions hosts a community event for their Piedra Angular friends. We will be able to join them. They have a nice basketball court (and volleyball net) at the community center. One day while we are in Piedras Negras, we will have an opportunity to go to the market in the city. On our last day, we’re planning to enjoy some fun in San Antonio.
HOW SAFE IS PIEDRAS NEGRAS?
-VERY safe! We never felt any danger while we were there.
